posteo vs protonmail

I like Protonmail design and them forcing two different passwords to access the encrypted inbox.

Our focus is security and privacy without compromises. but it would be interesting to see otherwise as lots of them are too limiting compared to gmail. i am trying protonmail mainly on ios and while i hate their chosen colour, i like the design and usability a loti am on a google app grandfathered free account and want to have more security and more privacythe issue is cost ... proton in my local (canadian) currency is almost $70 a year versus like $18-20 a year for the other 3i do like proton mail, i am retired and not that geeky ... it seems pretty clear to understand and use which i like a lot ... but the price difference over say the next 5 years is significanti would love to hear from users what they think makes proton mail worth the extra moneywhat value does it bring to the table that the others don't ?ps. a mobile app and better design would be needed.so i take you decided to go with posteo?

id rather wait a while for something better or the current offerings to improve. I only saw them talk about it once when those episodes were released.But my last point in the 'con' list was made with tongue-in-cheek though ;)about the metadata: you speak about that as if metadata is one thing while it isn't. Based on open source coding, Posteo is ad-free and totally secure. I'm not really considering Tutanota, but it'll give me some more insight into ProtonMail.Where? It's the corporate profiling, advertising, filter bubble etc. I intend to have a main email address for personal communication with recipients I have to communicate with but who don't use E2E encryption (landlords, government departments, voluntary work contacts etc. Huge difference between Posteo and ProtonMail: Posteo is self-supported and financed by its users only (hence the absence of free-tier), while ProtonMail is dependent on external investors (and has been harshly criticized for that), which is always bad for privacy. with proton i need only check my nonsecure mail and eventually log into proton. Protonmail has a bigger inbox but I wasn’t going to use it.

It has advantages for our users. I may also bind to ProtonMail another domain name as well.AFAIK ProtonMail doesn't make users pay for security, they only do so for premium features and appearance.Personally, as a student, I find the ProtonMail encryption and ergonomics features worth 75€ per year. Like most high-end Swiss products, ProtonMail paid plans will not be the cheapest option. This is why I chose Posteo over ProtonMail in the first place (and in 2016 only Posteo supported SMTP/IMAP).

what metadata is encrypted by posteo and when?i mean you obviously can't encrypt the adress of the person you are sending emails to.

I'm also leaning towards Posteo, so that it can be configured in another mail app for mobile use - I currently use Inbox by Google extensively, and don't really use email in my browser much anymore. For IMAP/SMTP, you can only use the account password. that I really want to avoid.Use case: I don't use email that much.

I'm working on this with their support. I really like the service so far, but have a little niggle re moving mail from an IMAP account. But there is some bug with contacts management, which made me loose many contacts in 2017, which forced me to migrate to iCloud contacts.I can encrypt email metadata.
